Budget Committee

The Budget Committee is responsible for reviewing, preparing, and recommending the Local’s annual budget. The committee ensures that the financial resources of the Local are aligned with its goals, priorities, and commitments. It works closely with the Treasurer to monitor spending, suggest adjustments, and promote transparency and accountability in financial decision-making.

Vice President, Collective Bargaining Committee Chair

Collective Bargaining Committee

The Collective Bargaining Committee is responsible for carrying out bargaining procedures in accordance with the Education Act, the School Boards Collective Bargaining Act (2014), the Labour Relations Act, and the policies, procedures, and directives of the Union. The committee works to protect and advance the working conditions and professional rights of all members by preparing proposals and participating in the collective bargaining process.

Constitution Committee

The Constitution Committee is responsible for reviewing and recommending changes to the Local’s constitution and bylaws. The committee ensures that the governing documents remain current, consistent with ETFO’s constitution, and reflective of the needs of the membership. It supports members in understanding the constitution and facilitates the process for proposing and debating amendments.

Elections Committee

The Elections Committee is responsible for overseeing and organizing all aspects of Local elections. The committee ensures that electoral processes are fair, transparent, and accessible to all members. Duties include setting timelines, verifying nominations, facilitating voting procedures, and upholding the integrity of the electoral process in accordance with the Local’s constitution.

Health and Safety Committee

The Health and Safety Committee works to ensure that safe and healthy working conditions are maintained for all members. The committee reviews concerns related to physical and mental health and safety, promotes awareness of workplace rights, and provides resources and training on safety procedures. It liaises with the Joint Health and Safety Committee and advocates for improvements based on member input and legislation.

New Members Committee

The New Members Committee is dedicated to supporting and engaging new members. Its goal is to create a welcoming environment by providing resources, professional development opportunities, and networking events to help new members navigate their roles effectively. The committee works to:

  • Identify the needs and concerns of new members.
  • Organize events and initiatives that foster professional growth and
    community building.
  • Communicate important union information and available supports.
  • Advocate for new members’ interests within the local and the broader federation

Through collaboration and engagement, the committee ensures that all new members feel supported, valued, and empowered in their teaching journey.

Political Action/Public Education Committee

The Political Action and Public Education Committee is responsible for developing strategies and initiatives that support publicly funded education and promote the professional voice of educators. The committee works to build strong connections among educators, students, families, and the community. Its efforts aim to inform, advocate, and mobilize in defense of public education and equity in schools.

Professional Learning Committee

The Professional Learning Committee coordinates learning opportunities for all members of the Local. These may include workshops, training sessions, and events designed to support members’ professional growth. While some events are open to all members, others may have limited registration, determined on a first-come, first-served basis. The committee aims to ensure members have access to high-quality, relevant, and meaningful professional learning experiences.

Social & Social Justice Committee

The Social and Social Justice Committee identifies and recommends strategies and resources that promote a deeper understanding of social justice issues within schools and the wider community. The committee advocates for inclusive, equitable practices and creates opportunities for members to engage in social justice initiatives through education, activism, and community partnerships.

Status of Women Committee

The Status of Women Committee is committed to promoting gender equity and advocating for the rights and well-being of women members. The committee identifies barriers to full participation, develops initiatives to empower women in leadership and union involvement, and creates spaces for learning, connection, and advocacy. It works to amplify women’s voices and ensure inclusive practices within the Local and broader education system.
